Removed Races

Four Essence-exclusive class lines that don’t fit L2Cruma - neither in balance nor theme.

Why They Don’t Fit

Thematic Problems

  • DeathKnight: Undead corruption path - this theme doesn’t exist in Classic L2’s world
  • Sylph: Fairy race with guns - completely breaks medieval fantasy aesthetic
  • Vanguard: Mounted cavalry - never part of L2’s combat design
  • Assassin: Gender-locked (Human male / Dark Elf female only) - arbitrary restriction

Balance Nightmare

Each was designed to outperform Classic classes in specific ways, creating rock-paper-scissors matchups where Classic classes always lost.


DeathKnight

Gameplay Problems

  • Passive resource system that grants free stats just for existing
  • Unavoidable burst damage that can delete players before they react
  • Hard crowd control with no counterplay - targets literally cannot move, attack, or use skills for several seconds
  • CC chains into burst combos that guarantee kills
  • Self-sustain that makes them nearly impossible to outlast

Thematic Problem

A “dark path” for Human, Elf, and Dark Elf to become corrupted undead warriors. Classic L2 has no undead player faction - this is pure Essence invention.


Sylph

Gameplay Problems

  • Attack speed stacking that lets them attack nearly twice as fast as other classes
  • Range advantage that outranges every other ranged class
  • Invisible burst - attacks that don’t show in combat log until you’re already dead
  • Crowd control that can knockback/knockdown entire groups
  • Tanky scaling - despite being ranged, they become tankier than melee at high levels

Thematic Problem

A fairy race that uses guns. In a medieval fantasy game. They fly, they’re tiny, they shoot firearms. Nothing about this fits Lineage 2.


Vanguard

Gameplay Problems

  • Infinite mobility - a buff that removes all cooldowns from gap-closers
  • Stat stacking that gives +30% to attack, defense, AND HP simultaneously
  • Massive AoE - can hit 12+ enemies with each attack
  • Damage resistance - 60% reduction against bows AND magic
  • Crowd control - knockdowns and 90% speed reduction on groups

Thematic Problem

Mounted cavalry combat for Orcs only. Classic L2 never had mounted player combat - this is a Korean mobile game addition that makes no sense in the original game.


Assassin

Gameplay Problems

  • Defense bypass - finisher attacks ignore 40% of target’s armor
  • Shadow multiplication - killing creates clones for additional burst
  • Pure glass cannon - highest offensive stats in the game, designed for one-shot gameplay
  • Point accumulation - builds up to unavoidable execute damage

Thematic Problem

Gender-locked to Human males and Dark Elf females. An arbitrary restriction that doesn’t exist for any Classic class and serves no gameplay purpose.
